Troubleshooting

Resolve protected-page, connection, timeout, oversized-page, save, and export errors using the current Full Page Screenshot v1.21.0 messages.

Try these four steps first

  1. Confirm that the target is a normal http:// or https:// webpage.
  2. Refresh the target page so the extension content script reconnects.
  3. Keep the target tab active and retry.
  4. If full-page capture still fails, try Capture Current View.

Capture errors shown in the popup

Open a webpage first

The extension did not find an eligible active tab. Select a normal webpage, keep it active, and reopen the extension.

This page cannot be captured

Chrome protects settings, web stores, extension pages, and other built-in pages. The extension cannot bypass that restriction; use a normal webpage.

File access is required

The target is a local file:// page:

  1. Open chrome://extensions/.
  2. Find Full Page Screenshot and choose Details.
  3. Enable Allow access to file URLs.
  4. Return to the local page, refresh it, and retry.

Capture component unavailable

The extension installation may be incomplete. Update or reinstall it. For a local ZIP, confirm that you loaded the directory containing the complete build assets and manifest.json.

Connection to the webpage was interrupted

This often happens when an old tab remains open after installing or updating the extension. Refresh the page and reopen the popup.

A capture is already running

Wait for the current task to finish. Do not click the capture action repeatedly. If it never finishes, refresh the page and try once more.

Capture took too long

  • Keep the target tab active.
  • Wait for the main content to load.
  • Pause continuous animation, video, or auto-refreshing content.
  • Use Current View or a smaller area instead.

The target page changed

The tab switched, navigated, or changed layout substantially during full-page capture. Return to the target, wait for it to settle, and retry without switching tabs.

Page too large for one image

The page exceeds the browser's image-dimension limit. Use Current View, Element, or Area capture, or reduce page zoom and save the content in sections.

Screenshot could not be composed

Reduce page zoom and retry. If the page uses complex fixed elements, infinite scrolling, or nested scroll containers, use Current View or Area capture.

Screenshot could not be saved

  • Delete unneeded local history under Settings → Files.
  • Check available device and browser storage.
  • Disable automatic download and retry to isolate download failures.
  • Reload the extension if the issue remains.

Element or area selection does not appear

  1. Refresh the webpage.
  2. Confirm that it is not protected by the browser.
  3. Close page dialogs or full-screen overlays that cover the content.
  4. Start the selection mode again from the popup.

Element mode captures on click, and area mode captures when you release the pointer. Neither mode has a second adjustment or Enter-to-confirm step.

Full-page content is incomplete

  • Browse through the page once before capture so lazy images can load.
  • Wait for page data and fonts to finish loading.
  • Pause carousels, animation, or live updates.
  • For infinite-scroll pages, load the content you need first; the extension does not trigger content forever.
  • If a sticky header repeats, disable the page's sticky navigation when possible or use area capture.

Clipboard copy fails

  • Keep the editor in the foreground and click Copy again.
  • Check whether the browser or operating system blocks clipboard writes.
  • Very long full-page images can exceed system clipboard limits; download PNG/JPEG instead.

Download or PDF export problems

  • PNG/JPEG are free; WebP and PDF require Pro.
  • Check whether the browser blocked the download or save dialog.
  • Configure PDF paper size, margins, URL/date, and header/footer under Settings → PDF.
  • If a very long image fails, reduce the output size or split the content.

Sign-in or Pro status did not update

  1. Confirm that you signed in with the account used for the subscription.
  2. Reopen the popup and allow account status to refresh.
  3. If payment just completed, refresh the website account page and extension settings.
  4. If the status remains wrong, contact support with the account email, extension version, and order details. Never send a password or complete payment credentials.

Include this information in a report

  • Operating system and browser version.
  • Extension version shown in the popup footer.
  • Capture mode used.
  • Page type or URL when it is safe to share.
  • Reproduction steps and the visible error text.
  • A screenshot or recording with private details removed.

Do not send passwords, one-time codes, API keys, payment-card data, or unredacted internal pages.
